Santa Teresa, NM- On January 15, the IBA assisted in hosting New Mexico Lt. Governor John Sanchez who announced new water/wastewater infrastructure projects for the Santa Teresa/Sunland Park region.
Southern New Mexico’s economy is in a rapid growth mode, due to the influx of companies that have located in the region. To support the growth, Lt. Governor Sanchez announced that Governor Susana Martinez has requested that the New Mexico Legislature invest 60% its 2014 capital outlay, or $112 million dollars, in water infrastructure projects. Part of this request would include $8.75 million for the Santa Teresa/Sunland Park region.
The funding for the Santa Teresa/Sunland region would cover transmission lines, new wells, and a new wastewater treatment plan.
Lt. Governor Sanchez stated that investing in these infrastructure projects will allow southern Dona Ana County to continue generating new economic development projects that create good jobs for New Mexicans.
